Licensing and Activation Keys |
|
Every licensed copy of PxPlus requires a unique serial number and activation key that is generated specifically for that installation. The PxPlus download includes an activation utility that helps with the entry and recording of this information (see Installation Instructions).
The various licensing and activation modes are categorized below.
A demo activation can be invoked with every installation of PxPlus.
This category of activation allows you to "test drive" a complete copy of the PxPlus eCommerce bundle for a period of 30 days. However, demo mode displays a "nag" message every 30 minutes, is limited to a single user, and allows no more than 5000 records per file. When the demo expires in 30 days, a temporary or permanent activation key must be obtained to fully activate PxPlus. Visit the Sales page on the PxPlus website ( www.pvxplus.com) for more information.
This activation is available with every new license, and it allows you to run a PxPlus product for a transitional period of up to 30 days.
When you purchase a PxPlus license, you receive a serial number and temporary keys for a specific product and a specific number of users. The temporary activation is fully functional for 30 days or until a permanent key is issued. It is also useful for emergency re-installation of your PxPlus software in case of system failure.
Warning messages are displayed 7 days before the expiry date. When the date expires, you will not be able to access the software until you obtain a permanent key (explained below).
Any time within the 30-day period you can apply the permanent key simply by registering the product. For installation information, see Installation Instructions.
This activation establishes a licensed copy of a PxPlus product on a specific machine. Depending on the license, this activation may or may not be issued with an expiry date.
Every permanent activation requires a new permanent key, which is derived from system information that is generated at the time of installation. All permanent activations are dependent on the following criteria to be operational:
This information also serves to restrict a specific activation to its original system configuration. Therefore, once a permanent activation is recorded, the software cannot be transferred to any other location unless the license specifically allows for this. If the activation file is moved or deleted, a new permanent key must be obtained to re-establish the activation at its new location.
The Permanent key is created on the machine by the PxPlus Registration process. For installation information, see Installation Instructions.
Each registered PxPlus license includes both the highest PxPlus version that the license is authorized to use and the maximum number of concurrent users that can be running on the license file at any time.
When the maximum number of concurrent users limit is reached, new users attempting to start PxPlus will be given a warning message that the user limit has been reached and their request to start PxPlus will be denied. In PxPlus 2019, any user session rejected due to the user limit being reached will be logged in the system log file.
Concurrent users are generally defined as the number of different end-user systems. Where possible, the system will attempt to determine if a user on the same workstation is running multiple instances of the same version of PxPlus. If it is possible to verify that multiple sessions are being used on the same workstation by the same user, the multiple instances will be considered only a single concurrent. Generally, this is only possible when using WindX and any of the PxPlus Thin Client server interfaces.
(User limit exceeded system logging was added in PxPlus 2019.)
